Understanding the Authorities: BEZA and BEPZA

To successfully navigate Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Bangladesh, investors must understand the distinct roles of the primary governing bodies. These operate in tandem with the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) to facilitate global capital.

Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA)

Established under the Bangladesh Economic Zones Act, 2010, BEZA aims to establish 100 Economic Zones by 2030. It crucially supports both export and domestic market-oriented industries.

  • Supports Public, Private, G2G, and Tourism Zones.
  • Features an integrated One Stop Service Center (OSSC) offering 125+ services.

Bangladesh Export Processing Zones (BEPZA)

Established in 1980, BEPZA governs EPZs, which are highly specialized, customs-bonded areas designed strictly for 100% export-oriented manufacturing. Domestic sales are heavily restricted.

  • Manages 8 Operational EPZs (Dhaka, Chattogram, etc).
  • Provides unparalleled customs bonding infrastructure.
